The Carolina Hedgehog Society has periodic get-togethers for its members, including both hedgehogs and humans. We used Tenzing's birth as an opportunity (excuse, really) to socialize and play with hedgehogs.

We had a full house, with seven people and eight hedgehogs attending. We set up a large corral filled with hiding places, treats, and toys and let the hedgehogs interact. Since we had two boys and six girls in attendance, we paid careful attention to who played with whom!

Chris and Shawn recently adopted Snoopy, a rescue from Georgia. Snoopy is a sweet, friendly hedgehog who gets very active at night but was content to snooze in his hedgebag during the activity.
Evie (right) and Angel (left) are also both recent rescues. Melanie and Dave are now up to their eyeballs with three girls. Kirby, hidden in the bag, is much smaller than her housemates and was somewhat at their mercy during the festivities.
Kirby (the albino in the hedgebag at left) is probably relieved when Evie and Angel head off to explore the rest of the corral.
Knarla Pog was a little indignant when her hat was removed. As the hostess, she really should have been awake to entertain the guests, but she was quite insistent on napping underneath a hat.
Angel explored the corral thoroughly and ate most of the treats scattered about.
Tenzing was introduced to a wheel for the first time, and after some initial confusion, quickly mastered it. His mother was present during the party, but slept underneath a hat, happy to let her offspring work off some of his energy.
As a very small hedgehog, he also learned that it is quite fun to stop and allow the wheel to swing him back and forth.
The dismount from the wheel was somewhat daunting, as this particular bucket wheel is fairly tall. We're planning to trim it down a bit to make it shorter. Tenzing did dismount as gracefully as could be expected, although Evie had run off with the hat we'd placed there as a cushion.
