We have some very spoiled hedgehogs. The habitats and accessories prove it! If you are interested in obtaining the products mentioned here, descriptions and links to places on the web that sell them can be found on the Hedgies.com Shopping Guide.

Ever the spoiled hedgehog, Knarla Pog now has a custom cage which stands 6" tall. She has three levels to explore, connected by ramps, and all her gear goes on a storage shelf below.

Detailed photos:

The cage was assembled using materials ready available at home improvement stores in three days. The top two shelves slide out for easy cleaning. The uppermost one can be replaced with one that does not have a hole for ramp access, quickly converting it to a "loft" for another hedgehog if necessary. Knarla spends most of the day snoozing quietly under her hat, which is placed atop a warm spot on the cage liner. Below her, under the cage liner, is a small heating pad, placed on low, to keep her toasty warm. All wires are tucked safely away.

A view of Knarla's cage including a bucket wheel, shelf, ramp, and hiding placesEventually, we may let the two hedgehogs live together, as they are getting along quite well and Knarla is spayed. Until then, Tenzing's cage is a 24" x 30" collapsible cage, with the necessary accessories: bucket wheel, corner shelf and ramp, and fabric hat. The lid is an important part of the cage as hedgehogs can be excellent climbers. We've never had an escape, but it would only be a matter of time with a lid-less cage.

Toys include a glow-in-the dark plastic ball and a hanging cat toy, but they seem to ignore them in favor of running on the wheel. Knarla also loves to explore our apartment in her exercise ball and Tenzing is getting the hang of it.
